Seems like ignitor failure, which is a cheap easy, but we're unsure why the control panel is throwing out limit device error code and not the check ignition error? Power coming from control board to ignitor. However, during troubleshooting we noticed ignitor not even attempt ingition. TL:DR - control panel indicating limit switch error, tested switch and there is no open loop. Why is the error code for the limit switch, if there's not even heat/ingition happening? The ignitor code is 9 flashes, why isn't it indicating that? Is it something else, like a faulty control board? I am reading online that American Standard/Trane had some faulty control boards in furnaces from 2001-2004, which my model falls under. If not, then the issue is probably with the panel right?

We're gonna retest today to make sure there's a full 17 seconds of voltage going to ignitor. We tested the wiring from the control panel to the ignitor and it's reading 110v. We don't know if that's good or bad for the ignitor, but everywhere we read online says ignitors should read 40-90 ohms, so we're thinking the ignitor is shot? There is no call for heat, or ignition attempt.ĭad came over, we used a multi meter to test the limit switch, there was continuity, so I'm assuming it's not due to switch failure, right? Then we tested the ignitor and it's reading 15 ohms. As soon as the furnace is turned on, the LED panel blinks 4 times. Turned off power to "reset" it/reset the limit, but this time heat won't come back on at all, just keeps blowing cold air. Then it happened yesterday, blowing cold air and 4 flashes again. Checked the panel, LED was blinking 4 red lights, which indicated the limit device, so I made sure the change to a new filter, check that all vents were open, and nothing blocking them. He looked at the burners, said everything was fine, changed the filter and left. Had a heater guy come out to check, he said because we reset it he was unable to identify the error code. This would typically happen in the morning, where we have it scheduled to come up from 62 (overnight) to 68 degrees.įirst time it, we did a hard reset by shutting power off, then turned back on heat kicked on fine. Since December, it's sometimes blowing cold air. Bought house a year ago, has an American Standard Freedom 80 single stage gas furnace, model #AUD080C936K4 serial#40823181G that was installed in 2004.
